Co-Editors-in-chief

Dr. Dangsheng Li received his BS degree in Cell Biology from the University of Science and Technology of China in 1988. In 1989, he was selected by the CUSBEA (China-U.S. Biochemistry Examination and Application) Program to pursue his graduate study in the United States, and obtained his PhD degree in Molecular Biology from Weill Cornell Medicine of Cornell University in 1995. From 1996 to 2004, he conducted postdoctoral research at New York University Medical Center. From 2004 to 2006, he served as an Associate Editor of Cell, making him the first Chinese editor in the journal’s history. He returned to China in early 2006 to take on the role of Deputy Editor-in-chief of Cell Research (CR), and later served as the Editor-in-chief of CR from 2021 to 2025. In 2015, he spearheaded the launch of Cell Discovery and served as its Executive Editor-in-chief, and later the Editor-in-chief from 2021 to 2025. In April 2025, he joined the Shanghai Academy of Natural Sciences as its Chief Scientific Officer. In August 2025, he was appointed as a founding Co-Editor-in-chief of Vita.


Dr. Yigong Shi received his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology with highest honor from Tsinghua University in 1989 and obtained his PhD in Biophysics at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1995. Following a two-year postdoctoral research period at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, he joined the faculty of Molecular Biology at Princeton University as an Assistant Professor in 1998 and was promoted to Full Professor in 2003. He was named Warner-Lambert/Parke-Davis Professor of Molecular Biology in 2007. A year later, Dr. Shi resigned from Princeton University, declined an offer of an Investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and returned to Tsinghua University where he led the development of biomedical research community for a decade. In April 2018, Dr. Shi was elected as the Founding President of Westlake University, the first new type of research university in China. In August 2025, he was appointed as a founding Co-Editor-in-chief of Vita.
