The branching, neuron-like plant illustrates the initiation and propagation of action potentials, while its flowers symbolize voltage-gated sodium channels. The fully opened blossom represents activated Nav channels opening to permit sodium influx,visualized as golden currents streaming through the branching stalks. This study uses the plant-derived neurotoxin veratridine to capture human Nav1.7 in distinct functional states, including an open-state conformation, uncovering the conformational cascade underlying fast inactivation of sodium channels.
